About

I lead the work, and I stay involved.

Most of my work now sits somewhere between a senior decision and everything that has to happen afterwards.

I’m Patrick Gallagher. I work with founders and senior teams when something important needs clearer direction and somebody experienced needs to stay with it through delivery.

Turtledove is how I do that now, with trusted specialists around me when the work needs them.

That’s usually where I become useful.

I work with founders and senior teams to understand what’s really going on, decide what needs to happen and give the work one clear direction.

When specialists are needed, I bring them in and direct them. I stay accountable for how the whole thing comes together.

Experience helps most when you know what to do with it.

I’ve spent 24 years working across design, marketing and communications, including senior roles at Anglo American and Aramco and a Creative Director role at powerPerfector.

That has meant working across international teams, agencies, brand programmes and complex delivery, as well as directly with founders and specialist organisations.

Different scale, similar reality: the brief on the table is not always the thing that most needs attention.

What matters now is being able to move between the senior decision and the practical detail without losing sight of why the work is happening in the first place.

How I work

Not every project needs the same people.

When specialist help is needed, I bring in people I trust and stay responsible for the direction and the reviews that matter.

Designer, developer, writer, filmmaker, production specialist – whatever the work genuinely needs.

I brief and direct the people around the work, but the relationship stays with me.

You still deal with me. I remain the point of contact and the person accountable for the work.

The client shouldn’t have to become the person holding all of those separate relationships together.

Client relationships

Some of the best evidence is that clients keep coming back.

A good part of my work comes from relationships that have continued as organisations changed, new projects appeared and the responsibility grew.

I started working with Ophthalmology Futures Forums in 2015 as its graphic designer. Today I hold much more of the creative direction and delivery around its international forum programme.

That accumulated context matters. Fewer decisions have to start again, and better decisions can happen earlier.

If you want to see what that looks like in practice, start with the work.
